Depression

Depression is one of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience with 264 million people experiencing it worldwide. Depression is different from just feeling low or having your mood go up and down due to the challenges of everyday life. It's long-lasting and severe in it's intensity. It can effect people to the point where they function poorly at work, school or in their relationships. At worst being depressed can lead being suicidal. Depression is complex and can come from social, psychological or biological factors. Many people who have gone through a bad life event like unemployment, bereavements or psychological trauma are more likely to develop depression. In itself depression can lead to more distress and dysfunction making the situation worse.

There are effective treatments for depression. Through psychology and counselling, we aim to help you recover the motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life. The most common ways of working with these problems, as proven by research and recommended by the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines, are to create an individualised approach and utilise person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or solution focused therapy.

Anxiety

Anxiety can be crippling. It can also raise it's head in many forms in relation to multiple different triggers. This can give us a range of different physical symptoms such as sweating, heart palpitations, racing thoughts and irritability to mention just a few. Anxiety can be caused by different factors which includes someones genetics, their life experiences, illicit drugs or the circumstances that someone has found themselves in. At times we all feel anxiety as a normal feeling whether we have a big day coming up like exams or an important life event. But anxiety in the form of generalised anxiety disorder is different. It is different in that it is enduring and often seeps into many different aspects of life. Some other aspects of anxiety can be linked with things like phobias which we will talk about on the phobias page.

Like depression the most common ways of working with these problems, as proven by research and recommended by the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines, are to create an individualised approach and  person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) or solution focused therapy.
